For everyone's safety the only approved landing area is Runway 8/26 and please use your radio - if your aircraft is not equipped with a radio please use a handheld.
The FAA has mandated that the runway safety areas be increased from 200' to 600' at both ends; and that a new taxiway be built at a distance of 400' centerline to centerline from the runway in order to maintain existing use of the ILS. The project cost is approx $8.1M - $7.7M (95%) is funded by FAA and the state and airport share the remaining 5% equally, at $204k each. Approximately 13 acres of wetlands will be impacted, and the airport is placing 143 acres of non-runway access property under conservation easement in perpetuity as mitigation. Additionally, areas of old pavement will be removed - so much so, in fact, that even with the new pavement being laid during the project, the overall square footage of impervious surfaces at the airport will be just about what it is now. The new pavement will be grooved and the drainage will be improved.
The existing pavement will be reclaimed and laid down as a subsurface, increasing the strength of the finished runway surface. The runway will be 4" higher at the end of the project. Work on the new taxiway and stubs will be ongoing as weather permits. The localizer building and antenna will be relocated to the east, and new field lighting and signage will be installed.
While there will be some unavoidable interruption in operations, we've strived to minimize the impact as much as possible - which is why the runway portion is scheduled to take 15 months, being accomplished in 3 separate phases. The finished product will be to everyone's benefit and increase safety.
Personnel and equipment will be adjacent to all surfaces throughout the course of the construction period. Please - For everyone's safety remember that the only approved landing area is Runway 8/26, please use your radio - if your aircraft is not equipped with a radio please use a handheld, and...

Flight Service is now run by a private enterprise, not the FAA, and we're finding that not all Local NOTAMS are published on the Web or PilotBrief.
